Before you fly, know where you cannot. These zones are enforced strictly — violations can result in criminal charges.

Always check with CAAN and local authorities before flying in or near any of these zones. When in doubt — don't fly.

Airports & Aerodromes

5 km radius
  • Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu
  • Pokhara Regional International Airport
  • Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa
  • Biratnagar Airport
  • All STOL airstrips across Nepal
Flying within 5km of any aerodrome is strictly prohibited without prior CAAN clearance.

  • Nepal Army barracks and camps
  • Armed Police Force installations
  • Ammunition depots and arsenals
  • Military training grounds
  • Strategic government installations
Unauthorized flying over military installations is a criminal offence.

  • Nepal–China (Tibet) border (High Himalayas)
  • Immigration checkpoints and border posts
  • Customs and immigration infrastructure
Cross-border drone operations require both Nepal and neighboring country's approval.

Flying over government buildings requires special security clearance.

Before Every Flight — Check These

1Check if your location is within 5km of an airport on a map
2Verify there are no active NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) for your area
3Confirm the area is not within a military or government security zone
4Check for local events, gatherings, or temporary flight restrictions
5Obtain written permission from CAAN if in a grey area
6Inform local police or administration for Category D drone operations
