Drone Permission Process in Nepal
A clear, step-by-step guide to registering your drone and obtaining official flight permission from Nepali authorities.
Drone Registration
📍 CAAN (Nepal)⏱ 1–2 weeksRegister your drone with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). All drones (Category A and above) must be registered before their first flight.
Required Documents
- Manufacturer's invoice or purchase receipt
- Drone serial number and specification sheet
- Passport-size photo of the owner
- Citizenship certificate copy
- Completed CAAN registration form
Authority Approvals
📍 Ministry / Local Govt⏱ 1–3 weeksDepending on where you intend to fly, additional approvals may be required from the Ministry of Home Affairs, local District Administration Office, or municipal authorities.

- Letter of intent stating purpose of flight
- Planned flight area and coordinates
- Duration and dates of operations
- Proof of drone registration from CAAN
- Organisation letter (for commercial ops)
Security Clearance
📍 Ministry of Home Affairs⏱ 2–4 weeksSecurity clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Griha Mantralaya) is required for Category C and D drone operations and for any operations near sensitive areas.

- Application to Ministry of Home Affairs
- Citizenship certificate / passport
- Background verification documents
- Purpose of drone use clearly stated
- No Objection Certificate from local authority
Flight Permission
📍 CAAN⏱ 1–2 weeksSubmit your final flight permission application to CAAN with all supporting documents. Once approved, you receive an official flight permission letter valid for the specified period.

- Approved registration certificate
- Proof of security clearance (if required)
- Detailed flight plan (GPS coordinates)
- Pilot credentials and emergency plan
